Portraits of a “Childless Cat Lady”

One of the great joys of being a cat mom is documenting every adorable moment with my feline overlords, Fuzzy and Crooktail. My phone and external hard drive are basically shrines to their cuteness, filled with gigabytes of cat photos and videos. But sometimes, a girl just wants a nice picture with her cats, you know? Enter: the quest for the purrfect wefie.

I took the liberty of dressing for the occasion – Angelic Pretty’s Strawberry Doll OP, to be precise – and perhaps my efforts charmed Crooktail into a brief moment of cooperation, so I was able to pick her up before she could slip underneath the bed! But don’t mistake her placid expression for genuine enjoyment. Crooktail hates wefies and being cradled like a baby. These seemingly portrait-worthy shots were the result of lucky timing and strategic screen captures amidst a flurry of attempted escapes. I love the final images!

Fuzzy, on the other hand, was a different story altogether. She’s usually a cuddle monster, perfectly content to relax on my lap while I snap away. Of course, she prefers those moments when I’m just out of bed, so most of my numerous wefies with her have me with messy bed hair and frumpy home wear (the struggle is real, people!).

Today, though? Miss Independent decided that coordinated cuteness was not on the agenda. She was extra wiggly and resistant to my attempts at a decent wefie, and working that “woe is me” tabby face like a pro. Maybe she felt upstaged by my outfit? Who knows! 😹

So, to all my fellow childless cat ladies (and gents!) out there, I salute you. We might not have mastered the art of the perfectly posed family portrait, but our pictures remind us of the fun and joy of sharing our lives with furry companions who have minds of their own. And sometimes, that’s purrfectly enough. ❤️
