Birthday coord – Channeling Momoko in BABY’s Elizabeth JSK

It was my birthday, and I was absolutely thrilled to channel some serious Momoko vibes from Kamikaze Girls (aka Shimotsuma Monogatari) with BABY, the Stars Shine Bright’s iconic Elizabeth! While Momoko rocked the long-sleeved OP, I’d read some rather harrowing reviews about the restricted arm movement and the sheer impossibility of zipping it up solo (especially with my, ahem, blessed arms). So, the JSK and matching blouse it was! I’m delighted to report that it’s not only elegant and adorable (just like Momoko!) but also incredibly comfortable. The cut is surprisingly slimming, and the delicate lace… chef’s kiss. Ojou-sama vibes for days!

Lately, I’ve found myself gravitating towards solid-colored, old-school pieces – you could say I’m fully embracing the current EGL trend. And nobody does old-school elegance quite like BABY!

To complete the look, I opted for a Monkeep clip-on wig – a lifesaver in this heat! I even attempted some curling iron magic, and it looked fabulous at first, if I may say so myself, but alas, the curls started unraveling after about an hour, leaving me with some gentle waves by evening. Still pretty, though!

I also tried to recreate some of those whimsical, country-style shots from Kamikaze Girls—think wide open fields of green grass and blue skies—but with, shall we say, slightly more limited scenery options. 😅

And because no birthday is complete without cake, I enjoyed an exquisite strawberry shortcake. The strawberries were unbelievably fresh and juicy, and the colourway and even the plate it was perched on matched my coord perfectly! 🍓

Outfit Rundown:

  • Dress: Elizabeth JSK by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
  • Headdress: Elizabeth Headdress by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
  • Blouse: Elizabeth Blouse by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
  • Wig: Monkeep (Taobao)
  • Bag: Usakumya pochette by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
  • Shoes: Heart Buckle Shoes by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
  • Socks: Ribbon Lace High Socks by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
  • Parasol: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright

Not the most creative coord, I’ll admit, but sometimes the ease of a perfectly matching set is just too good to resist! The Elizabeth pieces came from a Closet Child outlet in Osaka, the parasol from their Shinjuku branch, and the shoes and socks were part of a Mercari bundle, which I almost sold, but ended up wearing and keeping. I rarely wear brand shoes and socks (they wear out too fast, cost-per-wear and all that!), but these were too cute to pass up!

Did you have a birthday coord this year, or are planning to have one? Tell me in the comments!
