About

Hello! I’m Angie, with a confessed tendency to flit between hobbies. But amidst the ever-shifting landscape of my interests, there’s been one steadfast constant since 2007: EGL fashion.

EGL (Elegant Gothic Lolita) is a Japanese subculture fashion inspired by Victorian, Edwardian, and Rococo aesthetics. While its most recognizable feature is the voluminous, petticoat-supported silhouette, EGL fashion has evolved to encompass diverse substyles and influences.

It swept into my own life like a whisper of delicate lace and a twirl of petticoats, forever altering my perspective. My first introduction was through Misato’s iconic EGL style in the NANA manga, a source of comfort and joy during my formative years. Her look sparked an enduring fascination that would only deepen with time.

But it was Hizaki from Versailles who truly sealed the deal. His elaborately crafted princess dresses, perfectly sculpted curls, and masterful guitar skills captivated me, shattering the notion that frilly dresses and princess dreams were just for little girls. Hizaki proved that these elements could be embraced with power, artistry, and unapologetic individuality at any age and gender. And the rest, as they say, is history… a history that I hope to keep writing, one beautiful outfit at a time.

EGL fashion has been a steadfast companion, accompanying me through the complexities of adulthood. Through moments of both excitement and uncertainty, and even during periods when depression and loneliness loomed large, my frills have provided solace and delight. They greet me with a cheerful ruffle and a swish of a skirt, asking for nothing more than a little care and a hanger in my (admittedly overflowing) wardrobe. Even when life’s stresses led to weight fluctuations, these size-friendly clothes never made me feel inadequate, reinforcing that style knows no size limits.

Beyond personal style, participating in the EGL fashion community has been a breath of fresh air, especially amidst the often-mundane realities of life in Singapore. It’s easy to get swept up in the daily grind here, where dressing up often feels like an afterthought. But through EGL, I’ve found my tribe—a group of like-minded souls who aren’t afraid to embrace a little whimsy and stand out from the crowd. I’ve connected with amazing individuals and gained a unique perspective on life. It’s even inspired me to maintain a fulfilling side hustle for over a decade.

And now, even as I navigate adulthood with a newfound confidence in my own unconventional path, EGL icon Aoki Misako feels like a kindred spirit. Her unwavering commitment to her own unique style—a stylish “thank you, next” to those stuck on the idea of dressing “your age”—and her refusal to bow to societal pressures surrounding marriage and children (especially relatable at our age!) resonate deeply. She embodies the freedom to create a life that prioritizes passion and individuality – a life adorned with frills, of course!

This website began as a humble attempt at travel blogging, but due to the ever-present constraints of time, it’s become more of a space for me to expand on my love for EGL fashion. You’ll find my favorite coordinate posts along with the occasional glimpse into the lives of my adorable feline companions (who, I must confess, hold a larger piece of my heart than even the frilliest of dresses).

In the future, I hope to share more about my personal journey with EGL fashion, including that elusive wardrobe post that’s been 10 years in the making (it’s coming, I swear!). Thanks for joining me on this journey!
